Spring Ephemerals Plant Walk, $30

  • Weir's Ice Cream 2159 New York 94 Salisbury Mills, NY, 12577 United States (map)

This spring, join us at Weir’s Ice Cream and discover the world of ephemeral medicinal plants while enjoying some delicious treats. Ephemeral spring plants are a group of uncommon plants that grace us with their presence only for a brief period of time before the canopy foliage moves in. These native plants are threatened by over-harvesting and environmental destruction. Something as simple as building a new trail can irreparably damage these fragile ecosystems. Examples of these plants include blood root, wild leeks and jack-in-the-pulpit. During this plant walk we will learn how to identify poisonous, edible and medicinal plants, learn their history and lore, and explore their native habitats along the Moodna Creek. We will end with some homemade ice cream from Weir’s.

Cost: $30, includes $5 gift certificate to Weir’s Ice Cream.

About the instructor: Hi I’m Alexandra, founder for Vulgaris Herbs and Mindful Wilderness. I began my herbalism journey 10 years ago, inspired by my grandmother and the wise women in my Romanian heritage. For the last 8 years I have been teaching workshops on herbal medicine, nature connection and wilderness skills. I work with herbs in ways that encourage us to:

  • Engage with the synergies of the whole plant and its constituents

  • Make gentle, nourishing remedies that uniquely support each individual

  • Create a purposeful and responsible relationship with plants that fosters curiosity, kindness and simplicity

  • Build confidence and competence for the at-home herbalist; empowering each student to bring herbalism into their home through hands-on experience

  • Keep herbalism accessible to everyone
